Anacortes is affectionately known as "The Gateway to the San Juan Islands." This former milltown and fishing village on beautiful Fidalgo Island offers all the charms of an island getaway without the long wait or expense of a ferry. Anacortes' historic downtown is filled with shops, art galleries, and wonderful restaurants. Popular downtown street fairs bring tourism to the local businesses and a lot of fun to the residents year-round. Anacortes has a growing nightlife, with live music offered on the weekends and other times at local taverns and restaurants. For outdoor activities, nature is never very far away on Fidalgo Island. With so many fresh water lakes and salt water surrounding us boating, kayaking, fishing, waterskiing, yachting and diving are popular activities. Those who prefer to stay ashore can enjoy combing beaches at Seafares Memorial park, Washington Park, Bowmans Bay, Resario Beach, and Deception Pass. Hikers and mountain bikers come from all over to enjoy our community forest lands, 2200 acres of well-maintained trails around some of the prettiest lakes and through dense forests.
Hiking or driving to the top of Mt. Erie and enjoying the sweeping views of Skagit Valley and the San Juan Islands is a must on any newcomers list of things to do! I recently met a visitor from New Zealand who told me that Fidalgo Island is the most beautiful island she's been too.
I hope you'll come and enjoy all that Anacortes and Fidalgo Island have to offer. Call me anytime for suggestions. |
